In a tragic turn of events, former NCP MLA Baba Siddique was shot and killed in Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that two suspects from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been arrested, while a third remains at large. Shinde vowed to ensure a speedy trial in the case.
Mumbai Police has formed five teams to investigate the shooting and will be looking into the possible involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The incident prompted Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to cancel his campaign tour, expressing shock and sadness at the loss of a respected leader.
Siddique, who had recently switched to the NCP from the Congress, was a vocal advocate for the minority community. He had received a death threat just days before the attack and was under ‘Y’ category security. The shooting, believed to be a contract killing, marks the second loss of an NCP member in a week.
The tragic event has shaken the political landscape, emphasizing the need for swift justice and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Siddique’s death.
