The recently held local government election in Plateau State has sparked controversy as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) swept all chairmanship positions in the 17 LGAs. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently rejected the results, citing fraud and irregularities in the electoral process.
Despite winning 285 councillorship positions, the PDP’s clean sweep of the chairmanship seats has raised suspicions among APC officials. The APC State Chairman, Rufus Bature, accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of reneging on his promise of a credible and fair election, pointing out critical shortages of electoral materials in APC strongholds.
Bature expressed disappointment over reports of election disruptions, ballot stuffing, and voter disenfranchisement in PDP-dominated areas. Vowing to challenge the election results in court, he reassured APC supporters of the party’s commitment to reclaiming what he termed as their stolen mandate.
In the midst of brewing tension and uncertainties, the APC remains resolute in its quest for justice and transparency in the electoral process. Stay tuned for updates as the battle for electoral integrity unfolds in Plateau State.
