A’Ibom LG Polls: Gov Eno’s Betrayal of PDP for Akpabio?

Controversial Victory in Akwa Ibom LG Polls: Betrayal or Political Strategy?

By Egufe Yafugborhi

The recent local government elections in Akwa Ibom state raised eyebrows as the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched the chairmanship seat in the LG of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Despite the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) securing most seats, the APC’s victory sparked controversy and suspicion of betrayal.

There were conflicting reports in the outcome of the polls, with the PDP losing the only seat to the APC in a dramatic turn of events. The controversy surrounding the election results deepened as the Returning Officer initially declared a PDP candidate elected, only for the APC candidate to be announced the winner later.

Stakeholders accused Governor Umo Eno of selling out the party to satisfy his political relationship with Akpabio. The suspicion of betrayal and political strategy has stirred reactions from Akwa Ibomites and party faithful, raising questions on the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.

While the governor defended the outcome as a demonstration of democracy, questions remain about the integrity of the election and the future implications of the controversial victory.
