US calls on Israel to cease firing at UN peacekeepers in Lebanon

In the midst of escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, US President Joe Biden is urging Israel to halt attacks on UN peacekeepers. In two separate incidents, soldiers from the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) were injured by Israeli fire, prompting international condemnation. France, Italy, and Spain issued a joint statement denouncing Israel’s actions as unjustifiable, while Sri Lanka’s foreign ministry strongly condemned the attacks on its soldiers.

As Israel continues its invasion of southern Lebanon, Hezbollah and Israeli forces exchange missile and rocket fire across the border. The conflict has resulted in civilian casualties on both sides, with Lebanon reporting over 2,000 deaths and hundreds of thousands displaced.

Despite Israeli calls for Unifil peacekeepers to withdraw from the region, the UN has vowed to maintain their position. The situation remains tense as Hezbollah vows to continue rocket attacks in solidarity with Palestinians, calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The region remains on edge, with no clear end to the violence in sight.
