UNMISS Raises Alarm Over Deaths in South Sudan

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has expressed deep concern over the deaths of 24 individuals, including 19 civilians, as a result of clashes between armed groups in the greater Juba area of Central Equatoria State. The incidents involved former members of the National Salvation Front (NAS) and occurred in Wonduruba and Ganji.

In a press release, UNMISS called on the government to conduct an immediate investigation into the matter and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly. Nicholas Haysom, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMISS, emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and upholding international human rights laws.

UNMISS has increased patrols in Central Equatoria and is collaborating with local authorities and community leaders to prevent further escalations of violence in the region. The organization emphasizes the need for all parties to respect the rights of civilians and abide by international laws.
