UK police report 40 new sex crimes claims against Mohamed Al Fayed

Police in London have reported 40 new allegations of rape or sexual assault against the late Harrods owner, Mohamed Al Fayed. These claims have surfaced following the BBC’s broadcast of accusations made by former employees of the department store.

The Metropolitan Police revealed that these allegations span from 1979 to 2013, involving 40 victim-survivors. This comes in addition to the 21 women who had previously come forward between 2005 and 2023.

Commander Stephen Clayman encouraged victims to report any information or offenses related to Al Fayed. The police will thoroughly investigate to determine if criminal charges can be pursued.

Al Fayed, originally from Egypt, gained prominence in the UK after acquiring Harrods in the 1980s. Despite facing previous allegations, he was never prosecuted and passed away in 2023.

Al Fayed’s family has not issued any statements regarding the recent allegations. The UK police are now investigating why action was not taken against him while he was alive.
