Taiwan confirms arrest of four Foxconn employees in China

Four Foxconn Workers Arrested in China for “Breach of Trust”

In a troubling development, four Taiwanese employees of Apple supplier Foxconn have been detained in Zhengzhou, China since January. The local public security bureau reportedly arrested the workers for the equivalent of “breach of trust”. The Taiwanese government, through the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), expressed concerns over the incident.

Foxconn denied any wrongdoing by its employees that could harm the company’s interests, suggesting possible corruption and abuse of power by a few police officers. The MAC described the situation as “quite strange” and damaging to business confidence. This event highlights the risks faced by Taiwanese individuals living and working in China.

The tension between Taiwan and China has been escalating, with increasing incidents involving Taiwanese citizens on Chinese soil. The recent travel alert raised by the MAC underscores the challenges faced by Taiwanese in China due to strict national security laws. Despite Beijing’s claim over Taiwan, tensions continue to strain relations between the two sides.
