Putin meets with Iran’s President ahead of expected strategic partnership agreement
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently met to discuss the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning attacks between Israel and Iran’s allied armed groups. The meeting took place on the sidelines of a regional gathering in Turkmenistan, with the two leaders expected to sign a strategic partnership agreement soon.
Both leaders emphasized the close alignment of their countries’ positions on international affairs, and Putin expressed that relations with Iran were a top priority for Russia. Pezeshkian also highlighted the strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
The Iranian President condemned Israel’s actions in Lebanon, calling for an end to the killing of innocent civilians. He also accused the US and Europe of supporting Israel’s aggressive actions.
With Russia and Iran’s relationship growing stronger since the Ukraine conflict, Putin expressed his desire for a “new world order” to counter Western dominance. He advocated for broader international discussions on a multipolar world, including within various regional forums.
The meeting signals a deepening partnership between Russia and Iran as they navigate the complex dynamics of the Middle East.
