Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to Protest at D-Chowk During SCO Summit

PTI has announced a protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on October 15, coinciding with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. After a political committee meeting, Sheikh Waqas Akram, the party’s central information secretary, declared a ‘powerful’ protest. The party has also called off protests in Punjab and demanded the release of detained PTI workers and leaders.

The PTI criticized the federal and Punjab governments for ‘unlawful’ raids and arrests, claiming that the PTI chairman’s life is under threat. Sheikh Waqas Akram accused the government of oppression and vowed to continue protesting until their demands are met.

The SCO Summit is scheduled for October 15 and 16 in Islamabad. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the PTI protest, likening it to the disruptive 2014 sit-in. He pledged to prevent a repeat of such events to safeguard the country’s image and national economy.
