Ogun governor reveals discounted rice sales

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, recently launched the sale of Federal Government subsidised rice in the state, with plans to extend this initiative to include other foodstuffs across all 20 local governments. At a ceremony in Abeokuta, the governor emphasized the importance of making staple foods like garri, rice, and beans available at highly discounted prices to benefit the people, especially those in grassroots communities.

He highlighted the strategic collaboration between federal and state governments to ensure sustainable development through inclusive and transparent practices. Distribution of subsidised food items will reach various groups such as civil servants, private sector workers, artisans, and community associations, among others. The strict verification process, including the use of NIN and PoS machines, aims to prevent duplication and ensure fair access.

Commending President Bola Tinubu for the initiative, Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of such interventions in mitigating food inflation and promoting the welfare of citizens. The success of the programme in Ogun State received recognition from the Minister of Agriculture, paving the way for its implementation in other states.
