In an escalating conflict between North and South Korea, North Korea has accused South Korea of using drones to drop anti-regime leaflets over Pyongyang. However, South Korea quickly denied these allegations made by the state-run Korean Central News Agency.
The North Korean foreign ministry claimed that South Korean drones entered Pyongyang three times since October 3, spreading numerous leaflets and deeming it a severe political and military provocation that could lead to armed conflict or war. On the other hand, South Korea’s military refuted the claims, stating they did not send any drones but would investigate if private groups were involved.
While North Korea has retaliated by sending trash-filled balloons into South Korea, South Korean activists have used advanced balloons to send leaflets criticizing North Korea’s human rights abuses or mocking its leader, Kim Jong Un. North Korea views outside information as a threat due to its dictatorial regime.
The tensions have been further fueled by past instances where North Korea sent drones and waste-filled balloons across the border, leading to concerns about potential cross-border confrontations.
