The National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance in Jammu and Kashmir has made a move to form the government with chief minister-designate Omar Abdullah meeting Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar. Abdullah presented support letters from coalition partners, including Congress, securing his path to a second term as Chief Minister.
Abdullah, who led the NC legislature party, served his first term as CM from 2009 to 2014 under an NC-Congress coalition. The coalition won a combined 48 seats in the 95-member House, ensuring majority support for the government. The oath ceremony for the new government is expected to take place soon.
Abdullah expressed optimism about a smooth transition despite administrative procedures. He anticipates the oath ceremony to occur by Wednesday, following a series of approvals from relevant authorities.
Earlier, the Congress MLAs authorized the central leadership to nominate the party’s legislative leader, further solidifying the alliance’s stance in government formation.
