Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called for an “immediate” ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, urging the United Nations to pass a resolution to support this action.
Mikati expressed his commitment to Resolution 1701, seeking to enforce the deployment of Lebanese army and peacekeepers in the south of the country. He also mentioned U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s support for a ceasefire.
Emphasizing the need for halting civilian targeting, Mikati urged the international community to pressure Israel to abide by Resolution 1701. He also highlighted efforts to reduce airstrikes on Beirut, calling for a new Lebanese president who can unify the nation.
