“So far, despite high-level approaches from senior ANC figures, the British embassy has not relented or issued a visa. As a result, he was unable to catch his plane.”

Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s grandson, faced travel obstacles to the UK where he was set to speak at pro-Palestine events due to visa delays.

The Sheffield Palestine Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid expressed regret that Mandela couldn’t travel to the UK.

Despite efforts from ANC figures, Mandela still did not receive a visa, preventing him from boarding his flight. In contrast, Irish authorities waived the visa requirement for him.

‘Not the First’

This is not the first instance of pro-Palestinian speakers facing obstacles in the UK. Mandela intended to speak at various cities, including London, Edinburgh, and Dublin.

Due to the visa issue, Mandela had to address the Sheffield event via Zoom for the UK and Ireland Tour on dismantling apartheid from South Africa to Palestine.

Mandela remains committed to advocating for Palestinian rights, following in his grandfather’s footsteps in supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle against Israeli occupation.

Vocal Stance

Mandela continues to uphold his grandfather’s legacy by speaking out against Israeli occupation. He has been actively involved in advocating for the Palestinian cause, echoing Nelson Mandela’s ideals of justice and freedom.
