Kasselakis Stays SYRIZA President, Criticizes Tsipras

The former SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis expressed his opposition towards the party’s central committee in a recent late-night interview, challenging his predecessor Alexis Tsipras. Kasselakis disputed the decisions made by the committee, including his removal in a no-confidence vote, and emphasized that the upcoming party congress will determine his position as president.

Despite being ousted, Kasselakis maintained his claim to the leadership based on the party’s statutes, stating that he remains the de facto and de jure president until an extraordinary congress is convened. He also called out Tsipras and suggested that if Tsipras wants to return to active politics, he should run for the presidency against him.

Amid reports of alleged attempts to prevent his exclusion from leadership bid, Kasselakis refused to attend the central committee meeting. He demanded an investigation into the leak of his financial information to the press and denied issuing instructions to disrupt the event. The ongoing power struggle within SYRIZA continues to unfold as Kasselakis stands firm in his position.
