Israel seizes UNRWA HQ land in E. Jerusalem, plans settlement growth

In a shocking move, Israeli occupation authorities have announced the confiscation of the land where the headquarters of UNRWA is located in East Jerusalem to build a colonial settlement. This decision is part of a series of measures against the agency, including attempts to delegitimize its activities. The PLO condemned this action as a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, of the PLO, called for immediate intervention to stop Israel’s disregard for international organizations. The lack of international deterrence has emboldened Israel to defy international law and target UNRWA. This decision breaches the agreement between Jordan and UNRWA, as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2334.

The Israeli government’s intensified attacks against UNRWA, including freezing its financial accounts and targeting its staff, are part of a broader campaign. The international community is urged to support UNRWA financially and protect its mandate until Palestinian refugees’ rights are realized.

Abu Holi called on the UN General Assembly to pressure Israel to comply with international law and consider suspending its UN membership. Legal actions are also being pursued to challenge Israel’s decision to seize UNRWA’s headquarters land.
