Iran has issued a warning to US-allied Middle Eastern countries, threatening retaliation if they allow Israel to use their military bases or airspace for an anticipated strike, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
According to Arab officials, Tehran has conveyed through diplomatic channels that it will strike back against any Arab state that aids a potential retaliatory attack by granting access to its territory or airspace.
Countries like Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar – hosts to US military bases – are among those reportedly cautioned by Iran. These nations have informed the Biden administration of their opposition to the utilization of their facilities in any assault on Iran.
Following Iran’s missile attack on October 1 in response to the assassination of key figures, including Hamas’ Ismail Haniyeh, Israel suffered some damage to its air bases. Iran has justified its actions under Article 51 of the UN Charter, allowing self-defense against armed attacks.
President Biden has urged Israel to respond proportionately and has not endorsed a potential Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
