The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors, also known as Hibakusha, for their relentless work towards nuclear disarmament and advocating against the use of nuclear weapons.
“The Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo is receiving the Peace Prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again,” the Nobel Prize committee stated.
