Government leader chairs meeting with stakeholders to boost agricultural production & ensure market supply

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch recently led a meeting in Rabat with key players in the agriculture industry to discuss measures to promote the sector and ensure market stability. With five years of drought impacting the sector, industry professionals presented priority measures to reduce agricultural product prices by focusing on livestock resources and strengthening sector resilience against climate change and water scarcity.

During the meeting, discussions centered on balancing livestock and plant-based sectors like dairy, red meat, poultry, olive, citrus, date palm, legumes, vegetables, sugar crops, rice, seeds, and cereals. Akhannouch emphasized government support for agricultural professionals to optimize performance and manage production factors effectively.

The government aims to implement urgent measures to lower agricultural product prices to support citizens’ purchasing power and maintain market supply. As part of the Generation Green strategy, the government signed 19 program contracts for the modernization of agricultural production sectors, with a total cost exceeding 110 billion dirhams over 10 years.

Overall, the meeting highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing the agricultural sector’s adaptability and restoring balance in productive sectors to address the challenges of drought and market stability. Participants included key government officials and industry representatives, signaling a collaborative effort towards agricultural development in Morocco.
