French Mirage 2000 Fighter Jets Delayed for Ukraine
In June, French President Emmanuel Macron promised to deliver Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of 2024. However, due to a delay, the planes will now reach Kyiv in the first quarter of 2025, as announced by French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu on October 8.
The Mirage 2000, known for its speed and weaponry, will be upgraded to the latest standards before delivery. These modernized jets will boost Ukraine’s air defense capabilities significantly, especially in countering missile and drone attacks.
While the Mirage 2000-5 has certain limitations compared to other fighter jets like the F-16, it will still enhance Ukraine’s defense system. With plans to integrate long-range weapons and electronic warfare equipment, the Mirages are expected to be a valuable asset for Ukraine.
Despite challenges in meeting the required number of fighter jets for Ukraine’s army, the Mirage 2000 jets from France are a crucial step towards strengthening the country’s air force. Discussions are also ongoing for the delivery of other fighter jet models to further enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
