President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled a French military training program for Ukrainian soldiers in northeast France. The program includes a 2,300-strong Ukrainian brigade that will be equipped by the French military. The brigade, named ‘Anne of Kiev,’ will receive armored vehicles, artillery guns, armored fighting vehicles, trucks, and anti-tank systems after completing training.
Additionally, the French Air Force is training Ukrainian pilots to operate Mirage 2000 fighter jets. President Macron has expressed support for Ukraine’s war efforts and urged NATO allies to consider deploying troops to support Kiev, a proposal that was mostly rejected by Western nations.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky visited France to promote his ‘victory plan’ to foreign weapons donors. However, the meeting was postponed due to US President Biden’s focus on Hurricane Milton response.
Despite setbacks on the frontline, Ukraine continues to face challenges in its conflict with Russia, which Moscow describes as a US-instigated proxy war. Macron’s initiative showcases France’s solidarity with Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
