Doctors’ body urges Mamata to address junior medics’ grievances

Last Updated:

An association of doctors in West Bengal has urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to address the grievances of junior medics protesting over the alleged rape and murder of their colleague at RG Kar hospital. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) warned of a nationwide “complete shutdown of medical services” if any harm comes to the protesting doctors. The doctors’ body emphasized the need for a safe working environment and prompt action to resolve the issues. FAIMA expressed solidarity with the junior medics and threatened to initiate a nationwide shutdown of medical services if necessary.

The junior doctors, on a hunger strike for six days, are demanding the removal of health secretary NS Nigam and fulfillment of various other demands related to hospital facilities and security. The protest follows the rape-murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August. Despite assurances from the state government, the doctors are continuing their agitation for justice and safety.
