China’s top envoy in Bangladesh, Yao Wen, met with student protesters and praised their courage and wisdom in the anti-government movement. The student protests, which began in July, culminated in a regime change in Bangladesh after two years of unrest.
Yao commended the young generation for their role in the movement and encouraged them to contribute to the country’s unity, stability, development, and prosperity. Two student leaders, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, were appointed to the interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus.
Despite their absence in photos from the meeting with the Chinese embassy, Islam and Mahmud have been actively involved in the interim government. The Chinese envoy also reaffirmed China’s stance of non-interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs during a meeting with Yunus.
This gesture highlights the diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, showing mutual respect for each other’s choices and decisions. The unity and solidarity demonstrated by the students have not gone unnoticed, paving the way for a brighter future for Bangladesh.
