Benue Rep files N1bn suit against Gov Alia, 2 others for palliatives

The Benue Rep Slams Governor Alia with N1bn Suit

By Peter Duru, Makurdi

Mr. Terseer Ugbor, the lawmaker representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has taken legal action against Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, filing a N1 billion defamation suit at a Makurdi High Court.

In the suit, Ugbor accused the Governor, along with Mr. Tersoo Kula and Isaac Uzaan, of defaming his character and reputation. Ugbor recalled his efforts to secure palliatives for his constituents affected by herdsmen attacks in Benue State, highlighting how Governor Alia allegedly impounded relief materials intended for the IDPs in Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker is seeking a court order to have the defamatory posts removed from social media, a retraction and public apology in national dailies, as well as a payment of N1 billion in damages for the defamation. A hearing date is yet to be scheduled for the case.

This legal action serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding reputation and holding accountable those responsible for damaging it. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
