Australia pledges AUD 3m for water project in Pakistan

Australia Grants 3 Million AUD to Pakistan for Climate Resilient Water Allocation Project

Great news for Pakistan as Australia commits to providing AUD 3 million for the ‘Climate Resilient and Adaptive Water Allocation in Pakistan’ project, set to be completed by 2029. The project aims to enhance canal water reliability and improve water allocation decisions in the country.

The Memorandum of Subsidiary Agreement was signed by Secretary EAD, Dr. Kazim Niaz, and Prof. Wendy Umberger from the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The project includes mid-season planning, exploring on-farm water storage options, and promoting climate resilience for better economic outcomes.

Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs expressed gratitude towards Australia for their support in developing Pakistan’s agricultural sector. In addition, Pakistan has requested an extra $1.5 billion loan from the IMF to combat climate change impacts, focusing on economic stability and sustainable development.
