A’Court denies reinstatement of Amaewhule, 26 a. -Rivers

Rivers State Government clarifies Appeal Court judgment

The Rivers State Government has made it clear that the recent Appeal Court ruling in Abuja did not reinstate the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the state House of Assembly. According to the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Israel Iboroma, Amaewhule and 26 others had defected to the All Progressives Congress, resulting in the automatic vacation of their seats in December 2023.

Despite the court ruling, the status of Amaewhule and his faction in the House of Assembly remains unchanged. The Governor of Rivers State has directed his legal team to appeal the judgment to the Supreme Court and seek a stay of execution to maintain the current situation.

This clarifies the confusion caused by the recent court decision, emphasizing that the Appropriation Law of 2024, passed by the legitimate Speaker Edison Ehie, remains in place. The Governor urges the people of Rivers State to ignore misinformation and fake news regarding the situation.
