22 killed in Beirut strikes; Hezbollah leader escapes assassination

Israel’s military recently operated near a Unifil base in the Naqoura area, prompting them to instruct UN forces to seek protected spaces before opening fire. Despite Israeli attacks and orders to leave, the peacekeepers remain determined to stay at their posts, as stated by Unifil’s spokesperson Andrea Tenenti.

In response, Israel’s UN ambassador suggested that Unifil relocate north to avoid danger as tensions escalate. The region remains on high alert, awaiting Israel’s reaction to an Iranian missile strike on October 1. US Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the need for de-escalation and a ceasefire, especially in Gaza and Lebanon.

The situation in Gaza and Lebanon remains unresolved, with Israeli strikes reportedly causing significant casualties in Lebanon over the past year. The toll includes both civilians and combatants. Similarly, Hezbollah’s cross-border fire into Israel has resulted in casualties, with over half being civilians.
