The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has pledged to allocate at least 15% of their annual budgets to the education sector to address the challenges faced by school children. This commitment was announced by NGF Chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, after the International Conference on Girl Child Education.

Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the urgency of addressing the high number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. The NGF Director General highlighted the need for policies to tackle this issue, stressing the importance of investing in education for the future of children.

The NGF also launched the Girl Child Education Volunteers’ Advocates initiative to promote girl child education across the 774 local government areas. The Minister of Women Affairs announced initiatives to rescue out-of-school children from the streets starting in 2024 and empower their mothers.

The event, which coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child, highlighted the importance of education for girls and the need for investments in technical and vocational education. The NGF remains dedicated to improving education at all levels, with a focus on decreasing the number of out-of-school children.

Overall, the conference featured presentations on educational strategies, the launch of GICEVA, and panel discussions to address pressing issues in the education sector.
