The Kaduna State House of Assembly recently addressed concerns raised by the Peoples Democratic Party regarding the upcoming local government election. Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Henry Marah, clarified that there are no plans to amend the state’s Local Government Electoral Law ahead of the election on October 19, 2024. The PDP had alleged that the Assembly was attempting to manipulate the election by making last-minute changes to the electoral law.
Marah dismissed these claims, stating that no such amendments were listed in the order paper for the Assembly’s session on October 9. He also explained that a previous amendment had removed the use of electronic voting machines due to logistical challenges. The Assembly remains dedicated to serving the interests of the people and operates independently from the state government.
The PDP emphasized the importance of transparent and fair elections, urging the Governor, security agencies, and the public to ensure a peaceful voting process. They vowed to resist any attempts to rig the polls and ensure that the election reflects the will of the people. Regardless of the controversy, the Assembly is focused on upholding the law and serving the community.
