The Azerbaijani community in the Netherlands recently made a significant impact on the Dutch Parliament by highlighting the realities of the Karabakh conflict. The community voiced their discontent with the term “occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh” used in Dutch government discussions, as it goes against international law and undermines Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In response, the Union of Azerbaijani Women in the Netherlands “Ana Veten” organized a meeting with Dutch parliamentarians, presenting a petition to raise awareness about the issue. The Azerbaijani diaspora emphasized the need for an objective and fair stance on the Karabakh conflict, urging the Dutch government, parliament, and media to convey the true causes and consequences to the global community.
Additionally, the Azerbaijani community proposed a visit by Dutch Parliament members to Azerbaijan to witness the ground realities firsthand, especially in the liberated territories. The petition also highlighted the fate of missing Azerbaijanis from the First Karabakh War, calling for serious discussion and attention from international organizations.
The Dutch Parliament’s positive response and the ongoing discussions indicate a hopeful future for addressing these crucial issues and fostering peaceful coexistence between Azerbaijani and Armenian communities.
