Woman Arrested for Stealing One-Month-Old Baby in Leer Town
A 27-year-old woman was caught by the police trying to flee Leer Town in Unity State’s Leer County after stealing a one-month-old baby girl. The Director of Police in Leer County, Kuony Chan Kulang, revealed that the woman was apprehended at a checkpoint as she attempted to escape with the infant. The incident occurred at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, leaving the mother shocked when she woke up to find her child missing.
The motive behind the theft remains unclear, but speculation suggests the suspect may have lied to her partner about being pregnant. The community’s outrage led to the suspect being detained for her safety. Leer County Commissioner Stephen Taker Riek Dong commended the swift actions of the police and assured that justice would be served. The abducted infant, who went without milk for 23 hours, is now receiving care at the hospital.
Civil society activist, Dr. Riek Koang, praised the authorities for capturing the child thief and called on the government to address child abductions in Unity State.
