UN’s Guterres: UNRWA ‘indispensable, irreplaceable’ in Gaza war

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warns of a potential catastrophe if two bills in the Knesset pass, which would block UNRWA’s activities in Israel. Guterres emphasizes the importance of UNRWA’s work in the midst of the Israel-Hamas conflict and urges Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reconsider the legislation.

The bills, already approved by the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, aim to restrict UNRWA following allegations of misconduct. Guterres labels the potential passing of these bills as a violation of international law and a setback to peace efforts.

An Enormous Setback

Chairman Yuli Edelstein highlights the severity of the allegations against UNRWA workers and facilities. Guterres insists that the situation in the Middle East is escalating rapidly and calls for a reevaluation of the current approach to the conflict.
