UN Special Rapporteur Condemns Israel’s Treatment of Palestinian Women and Children
The UN’s special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem, denounced the ill-treatment of Palestinian women and children by Israel. She highlighted the use of reproductive violence unfolding in Gaza, describing it as unparalleled in other conflicts. Alsalem expressed alarm at the deliberate attack on women for being the reproductive barriers of Palestinian life.
Israel has faced criticism for actively targeting women and children in Gaza, resulting in increased deaths, sexual violence, and the destruction of essential facilities like a fertility clinic. The ongoing Israeli offensive following a Hamas attack has led to thousands of casualties, mostly women and children, and widespread displacement in Gaza.
The Israeli government’s actions in Gaza have raised concerns about a potential genocide case at the International Court of Justice. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire, Israel continues its brutal offensive.
