The “Iron Fist” Operation: A Chronicle of the Second Karabakh War

In response to provocations by the Armenian armed forces, the Azerbaijani Army launched the “Iron Fist” counter-offensive operation on September 27, 2020. The 44-day Second Karabakh War ultimately led to the liberation of Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia for nearly 30 years.

On the fourteenth day of the conflict, President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to Russian RBK TV channel, highlighting Azerbaijan’s stance. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia took place in Moscow, resulting in a temporary humanitarian ceasefire agreement.

Despite the ceasefire, Armenia violated the agreement, leading to intensified battles throughout the night. Azerbaijani forces successfully destroyed Armenian armored vehicles, military equipment, and artillery batteries in various districts.

Tragically, fires broke out in Azerbaijani civilian facilities due to firing from Armenian forces. As tensions escalated, the Armenian S-300 system and radar station in Khojaly were destroyed, signaling the ongoing intensity of the conflict.

The Azerbaijani Army’s determination and resilience during the “Iron Fist” operation marked a pivotal moment in the quest for peace in the region.
