Poll finds majority of Taiwanese ready to defend island against China

Taiwanese Prepared to Defend Against Chinese Attack, Poll Shows

A recent poll highlighted the strong willingness of Taiwanese citizens to defend their island in the event of a Chinese attack. Commissioned by the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, the survey revealed that nearly 68% of respondents would be willing to fight for Taiwan, while 23.6% expressed reluctance.

Despite concerns over China’s territorial ambitions, a majority of participants believe that an attack within the next five years is unlikely. Additionally, over half of those surveyed have confidence in US support, with 52% expecting American intervention in the event of a Chinese invasion.

On the other hand, US intelligence has raised alarms about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s alleged plans to invade Taiwan by 2027. Tensions between the two nations have escalated, with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te being criticized by Beijing for advocating independence.

As the threat of conflict looms, the Taiwanese population remains steadfast in their commitment to defending their homeland against any potential aggression.
