Orban sparks outrage as he condemns EU ‘elites’ in parliament

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban made headlines at the European Parliament by challenging the EU to change its approach towards Ukraine or face defeat. He also expressed his support for Donald Trump and even promised to celebrate with champagne if Trump wins re-election.

Orban, known for his close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been at odds with the EU on various issues, including aid to Ukraine and laws deemed undemocratic by the bloc. As Hungary holds the EU presidency, Orban aims to present his country’s priorities, setting the stage for contentious debates with EU lawmakers.

The outspoken prime minister criticized European “elites” and called for a new political landscape grounded in nation states rather than centralized EU power. He highlighted the need for dialogue and negotiation in conflict resolution, particularly in Ukraine.

Orban’s unorthodox approach has led to clashes with EU officials, prompting boycotts and criticism. Despite facing backlash, he remains steadfast in his support for Trump and his nationalist views, signaling a shift in European politics.

As Orban faces scrutiny and opposition from mainstream EU parties, his defiant stance on issues like migration and civil rights continues to challenge the status quo in European politics.
