The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has announced that it will be severing all roads and railways connected to the Republic of Korea (ROK) beginning Wednesday, in what they are calling a “self-defensive measure.” The Korean Central News Agency reported that this decision comes in response to the perceived threats from the ROK and the presence of U.S. strategic nuclear assets in the region.
The Korean People’s Army General Staff stated that due to the precarious situation on the Korean Peninsula, including military exercises in the ROK near the DPRK’s border and talk of the “end of the regime” in North Korea, this drastic measure is necessary to safeguard national security.
Starting October 9, the DPRK will implement a project to cut off all connections to South Korea and fortify their borders with strong defense structures. The move highlights the tense military environment on the peninsula and the need for heightened defense measures by the DPRK armed forces.
This decision underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the DPRK’s efforts to protect its sovereignty amidst external threats.
