Israeli Prime Minister Blocks Defense Minister’s Trip to Washington
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has banned his Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, from traveling to Washington to discuss a potential Israeli attack on Iran. According to Axios, Netanyahu imposed two conditions for the trip to proceed.
Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant’s visit, scheduled for Wednesday, was intended to coordinate with the U.S. regarding Israel’s potential response to Iran. However, Netanyahu’s last-minute veto delayed the trip. This action highlights the ongoing tension between Netanyahu and his defense minister, as well as the strained relationship between Netanyahu and the Biden administration.
Netanyahu demanded a phone call with President Biden and approval from the Israeli security cabinet before allowing Gallant’s trip. The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized the need for a clear decision on the nature of the retaliation against Iran before proceeding with the visit.
