President Filipe Nyusi is stepping down after two terms, with Frelimo’s candidate, Daniel Chapo, likely to succeed him. Independent candidate Venancio Mondlane has gained support from disenchanted youth, presenting a significant threat to Frelimo and the official opposition party, Renamo.
The elected leader will face challenges, including insecurity in the north, hindering major gas projects and displacing thousands. The candidates have pledged to address these issues along with high unemployment, hunger, and economic crises.

An ISIL-affiliated group in Cabo Delgado has caused devastation, with promises from candidates to address development issues. Additionally, past elections have seen allegations of fraud and protests, raising concerns about potential post-election unrest.
Results will be announced by the National Election Commission, with the possibility of objections being filed by any party to be reviewed by the Constitutional Council.
