Most Finns urge sanctions & war crime charges vs. Israel

A recent survey commissioned by Fingo has revealed that over 60% of Finns support prosecuting Israeli leaders for war crimes committed during the Gaza conflict. Additionally, 55% of respondents back imposing economic sanctions on Israel, showing strong public support in Finland for defending Palestinian rights and upholding international law.

Johannes Hautaviita, Advocacy Communications Expert at Fingo, stated, “Finnish people strongly favor policies that uphold human rights and international law, especially concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict. Their support for these measures is notably strong in Europe.”

The survey found that 63% of respondents believe Israeli leaders should face war crime prosecutions, aligning with global discussions as the ICC seeks arrest warrants for leaders from both Hamas and Israel. In addition, over half of Finns support economic sanctions against Israel for the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.

Finnish sentiment towards recognizing Palestine is also significant, with 49% favoring immediate recognition. Overall, the survey reflects growing concerns and support for human rights and international law in the context of the ongoing Gaza conflict.
