Lebanon’s Transport Minister shared that Beirut has received “assurances” from Israel regarding the safety of the country’s only international airport, but stressed that these assurances do not amount to guarantees. Despite the intense air campaign targeting Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon, including near the airport, the United States cautioned Israel against attacking the airport or its access roads.
The Minister emphasized Lebanon’s desire to keep its vital infrastructure, including the Rafik Hariri International Airport, operational. He refuted Israeli claims of weapons smuggling through the airport and border crossings, stating that all activities are closely monitored and approved by Lebanese authorities.
Efforts are being made to restore the Masnaa border crossing, crucial for imports, exports, and the livelihood of Lebanese farmers and industrialists, after Israeli strikes disrupted its operations and caused mass displacement of civilians to Syria.
