KP CM urges peaceful resolution to Khyber tensions after violence before PTM jirga

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered officials to diffuse tensions in Khyber following the violence before the Pashtoon Qaumi Jirga. The federal government recently banned the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) for threatening national peace and security. In response, the KP government prohibited officials from participating in the PTM-organized jirga and imposed Section 144 in Khyber district.

Despite the ban, PTM supporters gathered for the jirga, leading to clashes with law enforcement agencies. Three supporters were allegedly killed before the jirga. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan expressed concern over the violence.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi criticized PTM for its rhetoric against state institutions, emphasizing the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue on rights issues. The PHC barred PTM from holding the jirga on disputed land.

Despite the tensions, CM Gandapur is striving for peaceful resolution through dialogue and traditional jirga practices. A special committee was formed by the KP Assembly to address the incident, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order.
