Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, emphasized the need for the city to promote “new quality productive forces” as outlined by Chinese President Xi Jinping. These forces are driven by technological innovation and aim to break away from traditional economic models.
During a visit to the Productivity Council for a policy address consultation, Lee urged Hong Kong to capitalize on national policies’ strong support to develop high-end smart manufacturing, enhance productivity, and foster new industrialization. He highlighted the importance of transforming and upgrading traditional industries while nurturing emerging sectors.
Lee also inspected companies that successfully leveraged technology to boost production, such as a Chinese medicine manufacturer that expanded its capacity with a smart production line supported by financial and technical assistance from authorities and the council.
