Indian tycoon Ratan Tata, one of India’s most internationally recognized business leaders, has passed away at the age of 86. As the head of the Tata Group for over two decades, Tata’s legacy includes steering the conglomerate to annual revenues exceeding $100 billion.
The current chairman of Tata Sons, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, praised Tata as a “truly uncommon leader” whose principles continue to inspire. Under Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group made significant acquisitions, transforming the family business into a global powerhouse.
Born into a traditional Parsi family in 1937, Tata studied architecture and engineering in the US before joining Tata Industries. In 1991, he succeeded JRD Tata as chairman, and in 2008, received India’s second-highest civilian award.
Despite owning less than 1% of the group, Tata’s influence as a titan of Indian business is undeniable. His vision and leadership have left an indelible mark on the Tata Group and the business world as a whole.
