BJP’s Winning Strategy in Haryana Assembly Elections
The recent Haryana assembly elections saw the BJP securing a hat-trick victory, with 48 seats against Congress’s 37, defying exit poll predictions. The key to their success was the strategic focus on wooing non-Jat and Dalit voters.
After realizing the need for a change, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned and Nayab Singh Saini was appointed as CM. This move helped the BJP to reach out to OBC voters and address popular issues.
During campaigning, PM Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders highlighted the Gohana attack of 2005 and the Mirchpur killings of 2010, which occurred under Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s tenure. By emphasizing these incidents, the BJP aimed to weaken Congress’s pro-reservation stance and appeal to the Dalit community.
With Dalits constituting 21% of Haryana’s population and playing a crucial role in elections, the BJP’s focus on addressing their concerns proved effective. This strategic move helped the BJP secure a significant victory in the assembly elections.
