Filipino women participating in a domestic worker pilot program in South Korea can expect to earn an average monthly salary of 1.8 million won (US$1,340) after their first month of work. This program guarantees a minimum of 30 hours of work per week, with opportunities to earn up to 2.29 million won (US$1,700) for those willing to work longer hours. Currently, 85 out of 98 workers are clocking in over 40 hours a week and will receive their finalized wages mid-month.

The workers have been placed in 169 households in Seoul, serving as full-time or part-time carers after undergoing four weeks of training. This initiative is part of Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s efforts to address South Korea’s fertility crisis.
