The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has made a significant announcement regarding its relationship with the Republic of Korea (ROK). The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the DPRK will completely cut off roads and railways connected to the ROK starting Wednesday, citing this move as a “self-defensive measure.”
Quoting the Korean People’s Army (KPA) General Staff, KCNA highlighted the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula due to frequent military exercises in the ROK region near the southern border of the DPRK, the presence of U.S. strategic nuclear assets, and discussions about the “end of the regime” in the DPRK. In response to these threats, Pyongyang is taking action to fortify its defenses.
By launching a project to sever transportation links with South Korea and strengthen defense structures, the DPRK aims to enhance its national security against external threats. The military situation on the peninsula necessitates these measures for effective defense.
