Dáil committee to finalize child protection statements in 80 characters

The Dáil’s business committee is set to meet tomorrow to schedule statements on child protection following Sinn Féin’s handling of child sex abuse allegations. The committee is expected to allocate time next week for these important discussions.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has condemned the provision of work references for Michael McMonagle, who later admitted to child sexual offences. McMonagle, who will be sentenced in November, had been suspended by Sinn Féin as soon as the party became aware of the police investigation.

Despite this, McMonagle was able to secure a job with the British Heart Foundation with references from two former Sinn Féin press officers, putting pressure on the party.

Responding to the call for Dáil statements on child protection, Sinn Féin stated its willingness to engage in the debate and emphasized its commitment to holding individuals accountable for misconduct.

This development highlights the importance of addressing child protection issues within the political realm and holding all parties accountable for their actions.
