Chinese diplomat calls for backing Great Lakes nations

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, emphasized the importance of international support for countries in the Great Lakes region to foster solidarity and cooperation in building a shared future. At a UN Security Council briefing, Fu acknowledged the region’s progress in peace, security, and development but highlighted ongoing challenges like violent conflicts and humanitarian crises.

Fu urged regional countries to prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and working together for peaceful coexistence, common security, and development. He emphasized the need for joint efforts to combat armed groups, protect civilians, and honor ceasefire agreements to promote stability.

Furthermore, Fu called on the international community to assist in addressing the humanitarian crisis, supporting sustainable resource exploitation, and enhancing technology transfer for independent development. China reaffirms its commitment to aiding the DRC and promoting lasting peace in the region.

Together with the international community, China aims to contribute to the Great Lakes region’s peace, development, and prosperity, demonstrating its dedication to Africa’s modernization journey.
