China Urges U.S. to Revoke Arms Sale to Taiwan Region
In a firm statement, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Wu Qian expressed strong condemnation towards the recent U.S. decision to provide military assistance worth $567 million to Taiwan. Wu emphasized the need for the U.S. to retract this decision, as it goes against the one-China principle and compromises China’s sovereignty and security interests.
Furthermore, Wu urged the U.S. to refrain from interfering with the relationship between the two countries and militaries, emphasizing the detrimental impact such actions have on peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. He warned against the dangers of supporting “Taiwan independence,” stating that it would only lead to conflict.
China called on the U.S. to adopt a more unified approach in their dealings with China and cease arming Taiwan to avoid escalating tensions. The spokesperson’s message conveyed a sense of urgency and emphasized the importance of respecting China’s stance on the Taiwan issue.
